Research
I am currently based at the Institute of Education, London studying for a Ph.D. under the supervision of Dr Emily Farran. My research focuses on the use of virtual environments to examine the development of spatial mental representations in both typically-developing children and individuals with Williams Syndrome. Specifically, I am interested in the development of the use of different spatial frames of reference in these groups, and how this relates to the use of different navigational strategies and the development of large-scale spatial relational knowledge (an understanding of spatial relationships within an environment). A secondary aim of this research is to examine whether conducting spatial tasks within virtual environments can be used to enhance navigational abilities in WS and whether this can transfer to real-world situations such as enhancing spatial knowledge of the individual's school or home environment.
In general, I am interested in both typical and atypical development, with a particular interest in neurocognitive abilities such as visuospatial skills. Although my current research focus is on typical developing children and individuals with Williams syndrome, my previous research has also examined developmental and neuropsychological difficulties in individuals with ASD, benign epilepsy, and adults with eating disorders.
