I completed my PhD jointly in the Department of Computer Science and the Department of Psychological Sciences at Birkbeck College. My project involved combining artificial neural networks and genetic algorithms within a population modelling framework to pursue two aims: (i) to establishment the relationship between selective pressure on cognitive skills and the change in heritability of these skills across generations. This strand aims to clarify domain-general versus domain-relevant versus domain-specific mappings between task domains and neurocomputational parameters; (ii) to design a new framework for task optimisation, including examining the advantages of multi-task learning systems.
